At one point in time, Autodesk was seriously considering purchasing SketchUp from Google. In the end, it was purchased by Trimble. Afterwards, many of the SketchUp development team left to join Autodesk. This team created Autodesk FormIt , a product for creative sketch design.
Though a desktop application of FormIt is available, the cloud-based version known as Formit 360 is much more versatile and is constantly updated with new features.
The latest version offers a true game changing feature, FormIt 360 Converter. It is a Revit add-on that converts files from other applications, such as Revit.
SketchUp ---> FormIt --> Revit
SketchUp is a great product for conceptual design and visualizations. The challenge is leveraging the information to continue the design to documentation. Most firms at this point redo the design again in AutoCAD or Revit.
With the new converter, Autodesk has introduced a tool to continue the workflow which allows firms to participate in BIM. The PRO version also includes real-time collaboration, solar analysis, and whole-building energy analysis.
