Thanks soooooooooo much for the sysvar tip to disable the new "zoom" effect.

CAD kills me enough without having to feel like I'm falling into my drawings face first.

Given that the smooth zoom functionality is disabled if the zoom is too tight or there are too many entities on-screen for fast regen, it seems like dynamic zoom is out of the picture the moment it can help you.
I turn the thing off.
